Pro’s reb up to cash in big!
Northbrook, Illinois -- August 10, 2005 -- The Ed Rudolph Northbrook Velodrome will be hosting the 8th annual Roger DeLanghe Trophy race. The race is sponsored by 2CC and the Pony Shop.
The 8th annual Roger DeLanghe Trophy track bicycle race will be held on Thursday August 11th (rain date August 18th). This premier race is a salute to Roger DeLanghe who has made countless contributions to cycling over the years. The 50 lap scratch race contest pays the top 25 riders and offers a $2,000 cash prize; the largest total purse of the season.
This night of racing brings Olympic level racing to the City of Northbrook. A crowd favorite is the 4-place “mid-way sprint prime” at 25 laps and the 2-place “gamblers” prime at 2 laps to go.
The race is restricted to CAT I, II and III riders; with special scratch races with large purses for CAT IV, Junior and Women riders as well as regular category racing.
The Trophy Race honors the legendary Roger DeLanghe, an icon on the Midwest racing community. Since his emigration from Belgium, Roger has worked tirelessly to promote bike racing throughout the region, culminating in the addition of the Quad Cities Criterium to the USA Cycling's National Racing Calendar. In recognition of his achievements, Roger takes a lap of honor at the beginning of his race each year.
Scheduled to appear tomorrow’s race is last year’s champion, Bryan Hass (Alberto Sports) and past champion Robbie Ventura, formerly of the U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling team.
A full race program can be found on http://www.northbrookvelodrome.org.
Zipp, the official wheel of Thursday night racing will again be there. Racers will have the opportunity to win a new Zipp 900 disk wheel by purchasing a raffle ticket ($5 each).
